About Me

my Story

I was born and raised in the lovely town of Bozeman, Montana. Living just at the foot of the Bridger Mountains, it was common for my elementary school classes to take field trips to the mountain to go skiing. I, unlike many of my classmates, wasn’t the biggest fan of skiing or winter in general. I preferred to stay in my house and read. I was that quiet kid in the back of the classroom (we were often seated alphabetically by last name—mine starts with Y) with an open book under my desk.

When I first entered high school, I was under the impression that I would become a veterinarian because of my love of animals. That idea was quickly squashed in my biomedical sciences classes when I found out I’m squeamish. Those biomedical sciences classes became extra English electives, simply because I was good at it. To quote my father, I “kick ass at writing essays.” They were easy As for me, so why not?

In college, I majored in English because I had no idea what else to major in. I had no other interests. I had already had the idea of becoming an editor, but I had also convinced myself that the field was too competitive and that I wasn’t good enough. So my emphasis in my major was linguistics rather than creative writing (something I deeply regret now). The problem with linguistics is that in order to make a career out of that, you have to get a master’s degree at a minimum—something I still have no interest in doing.

After I graduated, I floundered in the administrative world for a few years. I had spent my senior year of college at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA and had elected to stay in Northern California for the foreseeable future. I wound up in Napa working for a public artist and hating my life; I lost my connection to literature and found a strong connection to wine. Then the pandemic happened and what few friends I had in California dwindled and I found myself moving back up to the mountains.

I got a job working for a small company that manufactures Nordic headwear, where I worked for a few years. Oddly, this is where I reformed my love of books because of the five of us who worked there, three of us had English degrees and all of us loved to read. While on the production floor, it wasn't unheard of for us to be listening to audiobooks all day. We lent books to each other and talked about them at work like a little book club. I felt like I found myself once again in the pages of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros—the book that reignited my love of reading.

From there, I decided that I needed to take control of my future again, so I enrolled in the Certificate in Editing and Publishing at UCLA Extension, where began to build my expert knowledge of editing and the publishing industry. I’ve always had a knack for copyediting, but now I can say I am a professional! Please take a look at my Services and Portfolio and decipher for yourself if you'd like to work with me on your manuscript. I can't wait to meet you!
